The Olmsted Anti-Recoil Valve (ARV) is the global standard for control of offshore riser tensioning systems. And it leads for safety during emergency disconnect sequences (EDS). That’s because they’re part of the Olmsted legacy. Over the decades, Oilgear's Olmsted group has pioneered the art of valving for motion compensation applications.

Product Details
During an emergency disconnect event, this system adjusts the opening of the Olmsted valve based upon the position of the tensioner cylinder’s rod — by means of both electrical and hydraulic controls. For different tension and depth scenarios, the control algorithm varies. This is determined by way of system simulations.
The modern anti-recoil valve has two core functions. First, it protects against recoil caused by a parted riser. It also controls arresting of the system during an emergency disconnect event.
